PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably support and fix an optical fiber with high positional accuracy by setting an angle at which two tangents contacting with respective grinding main surfaces cross each other not more than an angle expressed by a specific expression in a cross section vertical to two grinding main surfaces of a grinding wheel, and providing a specific shape when a virtual circle having a radius expressed by a specific expression is inscribed in an area sandwiched by the two tangents. ;SOLUTION: In a cross section vertical to two grinding main surfaces A-1 of a grinding wheel A, an angle θ at which two tangents A-2 contacting with the respective grinding main surfaces A-1 cross each other, is set not more than an angle θc of an expression I (S=Y0/R0, and Y0: 1/2 of a pitch length of an optical fiber engaging part, and R0: an optical fiber radius). The grinding wheel A in the shape of containing the contour of a tip part to connect the two grinding main surfaces A-1 in an area which crosses at a right angle to a straight line A-6 connecting an intersection A-4 of two tangents A-2 and the center A-5-1 of a virtual circle A-3-1 and is surrounded by the two tangents A-2 and a tangent A-7-1 of the virtual circle A-3-1 passing between the intersection A-4 and the center A-5-1 of the virtial circle A-3-1 when the virtual circle A-3-1 having a radius Rmin of an expression II is inscribed in an area sandwiched by the two tangents A-2, is also used.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
