PURPOSE:To remove moisture (adsorbed aqueous tritium) adsorbed on the surface of substance by spraying the mixture of both a chemical having action for decomposing this moisture and a chemical for inhibiting the chemical activity of a corrosive by-product produced at this time. CONSTITUTION:A sample 7 with moisture (aqueous tritium) adsorbed thereon is introduced into a sample chamber 8 which has a fitting 6 for intake and takeout of the sample and is made of glass. Carrier gas (gaseous helium) is passed to the liquid layer 5 of a halogenated silane compd. (e.g. dimethyldichlorosilane) from a cylinder 2, volatilized and introduced into the sample chamber to decompose the moisture. On the other band, in order to inhibit gaseous hydrochloric acid of a corrosive by-product, stabilizing gas (e.g. dry gaseous ammonia and gaseous methylamine) is introduced into the sample chamber from a cylinder 1. The produced gaseous hydrochloric acid is adsorbed by a trap 13 constituted of an alkali adsorbing material. An organic halogenoid product is trapped by a trap 9 constituted of molecular sieves. Exhaust gas is discharged while being controlled by an ionization chamber 10, an electrometer 11 and a recorder 12.
