PURPOSE:To surely and efficiently detect contaminated lactic acid bacteria by exposing an antigen through a pretreatment with an alkali liquid of predetermined density or an acid liquid, or through heating treatment, and causing an antigen-antibody reaction of the antigen with an antibody for detection. CONSTITUTION:A sample for detecting bacteria is pretreated with an alkali liquid of sodium hydroxide specified in the range 0.005 to 0.5, potassium hydrox ide or sodium carboxide of mol concentration 0.01 to 1, and potassium carboxide. In the case of using an acid liquid, the sample is pretreated with hydrochloric acid specified in the range 0.0 to 2, trichloroacetic acid of mol concentration 0.03 to 0.6. In the case of subjecting the sample to heat treatment, the sample is pretreated at heating temperatures of approximately 80 to 100 deg.C. The antigen of lactic acid bacteria belonging to the lactoacilus or(and) pediococus genus is exposed by these pretreatments. The antigen is made to undergo an antigen-antibody reaction(aggregation reaction) with the antibody of a resisting L. brevis J CM 1170 blood serum and the like.
