PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new microorganism, capable of decompsing a hardly biodegradable polycyclic aromatic compound, having the phenol resistance and useful for treating waste water containing the polycyclic aromatic compound, impartment, etc., of the phenol resistance to a microorganism. ;SOLUTION: This new microorganism comprises Pseudomonas paucimobilis 421Y strain (FERM BP-5122) which is a microorganism of the genus Pseudomonas and Rhodococcus ruber TA0902 strain (FERM BP-5121) that is a microorganism of the genus Rhodococcus, capable of decomposing a hardly biodegradable polycyclic aromatic compound and having the phenol resistance. The microorganism is useful for treating waste water by decomposing the polycyclic aromatic compound in the waste, water containing the aromatic compound, impartment, etc., of the phenol resistance to a microorganism. The microorganism is obtained by culturing many microorganisms detected from 120 kinds of soils in a culture medium containing the polycyclic aromatic compound added thereto and acclimatizing strains in which the proliferation is recognized in culture media containing phenol added thereto.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
