PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording running-out alarm method and a recording material running-out alarm device of the constitution of sensing the ink running- out time by sensing the required ink amount in the light and shade bit map forming stage of an image data. ;SOLUTION: The numbers of ink drops (injected dot numbers) injected or jetted for respective colors in a printer are counted, and the result is transferred to a residual ink amount sensing means 15 of a recording material alarm device 1. The residual ink amount for respective colors is computed based on the repeated injected dot numbers by the recording material running-out device 1, and the required ink amount is computed based on the light and shade bit map dot number count value (a) after half-tone processing by a half-tone module 13 or the sum (b) of the respective tone jet image data tone values after the color correction by a color correction module 12, and the residual ink amount is compared with the ink amount by the ink running-out deciding means 16, based on the result of which an alarm message or the like is displayed on an alarm section 30.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
