PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid revision of a transmission line installation attended with multi-channel processing, high cost of infrastructure per a program, a high cost of a subscriber terminal and complicated selection of programs with respect to the CATV transmission center equipment, the subscriber terminal equipment, the CATV distribution system and the program distribution method. SOLUTION: When a view request comes from the subscriber terminal equipment 3 to the CATV transmission center equipment 2 as to a program not distributed at present by the CATV transmission center equipment 2, a retrieval means 2a retrieves an idle channel not distributing a program. As a result, in the case that a retrieval means 2a finds out the idle channel, a distribution means 2b distributes the program requested from the subscriber terminal equipment 3 by using the idle channel. Simultaneously a notice means 2c informs all the subscriber terminal equipments of it that the program whose distribution is started by the distribution means 2b is being distributed. Thus, only the viewed program is distributed.
