PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily perform focusing and positioning by positioning a linear light image, in conformity with the shape of a two-dimensional data code. ;SOLUTION: A linear light source 3 is fitted to a reader 2, an optical system 5 including a lens 51, a prism 52, etc., is arranged for a linear light-emitting body 4, and the light from the linear light-emitting body 4 is converted to obtain a linear light image. For focusing on the reader 2, the linear light beam emitted by the linear light source 3 is utilized, and the linear light source 3 is so set that when the circumference of the two-dimensional data code is irradiated with the light image from the linear light source 3, the two-dimensional data code surface 6 is focused on the reader 2. The circumference of the two-dimensional data code is irradiated with the light source, and then the optical axis becomes perpendicular to the two-dimensional data code surface 6 and the focal length of the reader 2 becomes proper, so that the focus of the reader 2 can be precisely put on the two-dimensional data code.
