PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent molten slag from clogging up a slag discharge port at the time when the operation of a combustion melting furnace is stopped. ;SOLUTION: A combustion melting furnace 3 of waste disposal equipment is so constituted that waste (a) is thermally decomposed by heating, thermal decomposition gas G1 and thermal decomposition residues (c) constituted mainly of a nonvolatile component are produced, the thermal decomposition gas G1, a combustible component (d) separated from the thermal decomposition residues (c) and air for combustion are supplied to the combustion melting furnace 3 and combusted, an ash content thus produced is melted to be molten slag (g) and the molten slag (g) is made to stick to the inner wall of the combustion melting furnace 3 and to flow down and is discharged from a slag discharge port 18 in the lower part of the combustion melting furnace and cooled to be solidified, while the furnace temperature of the combustion melting furnace 3 is controlled by supplying part of exhaust gas G3 thereto. In this case, the inside lower part of the combustion melting furnace 3, at least, is cooled down quickly at the time when the operation of the combustion melting furnace 3 is stopped, so that the molten slag (g) flowing down be solidified and made to stick on the inner wall surface of the combustion melting furnace 3.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
