PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive method for recycling an expanded polystyrene by utilizing a specific fraction of a petroleum hydrocarbon having powers for both dissolving and precipitating the expanded polystyrene. SOLUTION: This inexpensive method for recycling an expanded polystyrene is provided by charging a fragmented expanded polystyrene into a fraction of a petroleum hydrocarbon which is a gasoline having 50-165 deg.C boiling point and conventionally used for a power fuel, etc., and dissolving the expanded polystyrene at normal temperatures for 20-30 min. The expanded cells of the expanded polystyrene which are a buoyancy source are dissolved by the fraction and the expanded polystyrene is naturally precipitated. The resultant precipitate is then scooped up with a fork or a large-sized scissors-shaped tool with fork blades, opened onto a board or a large dish, mixed with an extender pigment and converted into a product. Otherwise, the precipitate may be extended into about 5 m/m thickness on the large-sized dish and passed through a steam spraying route to blow away a very small amount of the residual oil in the polystyrene to some extent and dried with heat or hot air. The resultant polystyrene is then sent as fragments to the recycling.
