PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control a customer's equipment through a telephone line through the access to a customer's meter. ;SOLUTION: A call suppression signal connection is set through a customer's line between a central station and a customer's station equipment. The connection is made between a data access device 10 such as a meter read controller and a customer's premises equipment such as a meter interface unit 30. Through the connection, a signal is exchanged between the two devices without calling a customer by a call signal and without revision of a monitor station of a station device of the customer from an on-hook. In order to form the connection between the meter read control unit 10 and the meter interface unit 30, a voice exchange network of a central station is used. Through such a constitution lots of remote utility meters and controllers are accessed by using an existing telephone installation.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
