COLOR CHARACTERISTIC EXTRACTING DEVICE, COLOR CHARACTERISTIC EXTRACTING METHOD AND PROGRAM STORAGE MEDIUM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color characteristic extracting device and a color characteristic extracting method which easily convert a RGB color space into a color space that is close to human feeling, classify colors of a digital image in the converted color space that is close to human feeling and extract a color characteristic through color area decision. ;SOLUTION: A color space converting part 2 converts RGB value of each pixel of a digital image into HLS value. In a color space that is represented by the HLS value, a hue compensating part 3a and a lightness compensating part 3c compensate hue value and lightness value in the HLS value respectively so that an area in the hue direction between green and yellow and an area in the hue direction between green and light blue may become narrow and that, on the other hand, an area in the hue direction between red and yellow may become wide. A color characteristic extracting part 4 extracts a color characteristic of the digital image based on the compensated hue value and lightness value.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
