PURPOSE: To enable stationary operation of an apparatus for the thermal cracking of waste plastic to oil by detecting the level in a tank (the quantity of extracted molten liquid) by an inexpensive method and stopping the extraction when the amount of the extracted molten liquid reaches a prescribed level. ;CONSTITUTION: This thermal cracking apparatus for waste plastic is provided with a thermal cracking reactor 1 for melting and thermally cracking a waste plastic, a foreign material extraction pipe connected to the thermal cracking reactor at an end and extracting a molten liquid containing foreign material from the reactor, a foreign material collection vessel 2 connected to the other end of the foreign material extraction pipe and a pressure controlling means to control the pressure in the foreign material collection vessel below the atmospheric pressure. The amount of the extracted molten liquid is detected and the extraction of the molten liquid containing foreign material is stopped when the amount of the molten liquid extracted from the reactor to the foreign material collection vessel reaches a prescribed level in the vessel.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
