PURPOSE:To oscillate an arc current efficiently by applying oscillated gas to metal in a direction which intersects the central axis of the nozzle of an untransferred plasma jet torch when the metal is heated or fused using the plasma gas of high temperature generated by electric arc discharge. CONSTITUTION:An outer nozzle member 8 is installed on the lower end of a base 5 and an outer nozzle 8n having a slightly larger diameter than an inner nozzle 6n is opened so that the central axis of the outer nozzle member 8 meets the central axes of an electrode 1 and the inner nozzle 6n. An insulation collar 14 having a vent hole in the radial direction is inserted between the bottom outer surface of an inner nozzle member 6 and the top face of an outer nozzle 8 to supply rapidly circulating flows of heated gases to the space between the members 6 and 8. The heated gas may be a reducing, an invert, or an active gas and a coolant is supplied to the member 8 and then led through the base 5 and member 6. In this manner, arc voltage is applied between the electrode 1 and member 6 and the arc between the electrode 1 and nozzle 6n is transfer to the space between the electrode 1 and nozzle 8n.
