PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for easily producing a highly hard and elastic material such as heat-resistant material, refractory material and building material with inexpensive water glass as the raw material without using an expensive silicon alkoxide of the conventional method. ;SOLUTION: The method of producing a hardened material using a silica- polymer produced from water glass is as follows. Namely, a highly-polymerized silica-polycondensate obtd. by hydrolyzing water glass is concentrated in the presence of a blocking agent consisting of a partially esterified phosphoric acid to obtain a block silica-polymer contg. many linear structural parts, and then a filler is added to the block silica-polycondensate and mixed them to harden the polycondensate at room temp. In this case, it is preferable to perform a pre-treatment of the addition of a hardening reaction promoter to the blocking agent or chemical modification of the filler with a reactive surface-treating agent, or both of them.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
