PURPOSE:To prevent the surface of aluminum fins used for a heat exchanger from getting moldy. CONSTITUTION:A heat exchanger is constituted by employing the material of fins made by a method wherein a chemical film, consisting of a chromate film containing 5-40mg/m2 of Cr, is provided on the surface of an Al strip or an Al alloy strip while a hydrophilic film, containing 0.5-20% of mildew preventing agent and 10-20% of surface active agent in the weight ratio of solid constituents and the balance is constituted of coloidal silica and hydrophilic resin while the thickness of the film is controlled so that the amount of Si in the film is 50-350mg/m2, is provided on the chemical film. The material is provided with hydrophilic property, a resistance to water and mildew preventing property of drain, excellent in molding workability and high in the mildew preventing property of the surface thereof. Further, the amount of the mildew preventing agent, which flows out of the surface, is very little whereby aging deterioration of the mildew preventing effect is small.
