PURPOSE:To form an antibacterial surface having high antibacterial action over a long period by using antibacterial alumina sol prepd. by adhering a metal having antibacterial action or a compd. thereof to the surface of aluminum oxide in alumina sol. CONSTITUTION:Antibacterial alumina sol prepd. by adhering a metal having antibacterial action, e.g., silver or copper or a compd. thereof, e.g., silver oxide or copper oxide to the surface of aluminum oxide in alumina sol is used. The pref. content of the antibacterial metal or compd. in the antibacterial agent is 10-7-5wt.% and the pref. weight ratio between the aluminum oxide and the antibacterial metal or compd. in the antibacterial agent is 106:1-4:1. An antibacterial surface having high antibacterial action over a long period can be formed.
