PURPOSE: To provide a die for extrusion working applied with a hard film for improving the surface characteristics of an extruded shape. ;CONSTITUTION: A hot working tool steel is used as a base material and its bearing surface 6 is coated with a baron nitride film 8 formed by an ion beam assisted vapor deposition method. This boron nitride film 8 is formable via an Si_xN_y based intermediate layer. Then, the baron nitride film 8 is excellent in wear resistance, adhesion property and peeling resistance and is, therefore, used for production of the extruded shape having the surface quality excellent over a long period of time.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
