PURPOSE: To obtain the subject product which is stable over a long period, colorless and transparent and useful as automobile parts or the like by ring- opening polymerization of norbornane-based monomer in the presence of a metathesis catalyst. ;CONSTITUTION: Nonbornane-based monomers are ring-opening polymerized to provide the objective polymer in the presence of a metathesis catalyst containing (A) a catalyst selected from a molybdenum compound and a tungsten compound that does not have hindered phenoxy group and (B) a co-catalyst consisting of an organic metal compound that does not contain halogen, of at least one kind of metal selected from tin, lead, silicon, Li, Mg, boron, zinc, and germanium, and (C) a halogen supply source containing a sufficient amount of halogen to impart polymerizing activity.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO
