PURPOSE: To attain effective prevention of coal accumulation and blowing-through in the coal drier or classifier by detecting the signs of accumulation and blowing- through from the measurement of the layer thickness by means of a thickness meter set right under the coal charge place in a fluidized fed drier. ;CONSTITUTION: In the coal drying and classifying units comprising the fluidized fed drying chamber 1 where hot air is blown up from under the distribution plate 5 to fluidize and dry the coal, the classifying chamber 2 where the coal is classified into the fine particles, small particles and crude particles and the gas exhauster 28 for the hot air, the hot air by-pass blower and the crude coal cutter 9, the sign of coal accumulation or blowing-through is detected by measuring the thickness of the fluidized coal fed with thickness meters 19, 20 which is set in the fluidized fed conveying section right under coal charging position in the drying chamber 1 to operate the control valves 22 to 25 for blowing hot air from the bottom of individual divided sections and the control valves 26 for blowing hot air from the side by-pass near the coal inlet 4, as the opening order and valve openings are appropriately changed to prevent the coal from accumulating or blowing through effectively.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO
