PURPOSE: To form a pattern like a patch work by sewing threads, by providing a mode-selecting means which selects either the first mode that a sewing data code is effective every after a block sewing is finished or the second mode that only the sewing data of the last block of the patterns are effective. ;CONSTITUTION: A thread cutting mode setter 8 holds selected one of modes among a mode selected by the manipulation of a key 10 before starting operation, a block thread cutting mode, and a pattern completion thread cutting mode. When sewing operation has finished against a thread cutting instruction and the upper axis on the sewing machine has stopped, the thread cutting data to be previously memorized are read and the thread cutting operation, indication, and thread cutting driving are executed. A solenoid drive instruction is output through a solenoid driver 13a after the upper shaft phase is adjusted by an upper shaft phase adjustment data.
