The invention relates to modification of a separator ofabsorption glasswool (AGW) which is built into the valve-adjustedlead batteries (VALB) having a closed oxygen cycle. Themodification is made when one part of the surface of the glassfibres a thin layer is formed of polymers having hydrophobicproperties or of a composition of hydrophobic polymer withsurfactant which attributes partial hydrophilic properties of thepolmer. The polmer covers part of the surface of the glass fibresand gathers in the places where they are touching it by bindingthem in an unified network. The modified structure of the glassfibre increases the mechanical and chemical stability. Thehydrophobic zones of the polymer form paths along which oxygentravels from the positive to the negative plate, and thehydrophilic zones, as well as the polymer-uncovered fibre surfacesare favourable to the ionic conductivity between the batteryplates. In this way both the efficiency of the closed oxygen cycleincluding the transfer of oxygen and water between the positiveand negative plates are improved, as well as the currentgeneration and the current accumulation of the battery.4 claims
