The solid wheel and flange steel consists of 0.38 to 0.42% by weight. % carbon, max. 0.25 wt. % silicon, 0.40 to 0.60 wt. % of manganese, max. % phosphorus, max. % sulfur, 1.00 to 1.50 wt. % chromium, 0-30 to 0.60 wt. % of molybdenum, 0.70 to 1.20% of nickel, 0.015 to 0.040% by weight of nickel; aluminum and may. 0.008 wt. nitrogen. In the heat treatment of this wheel and the flange, first the quenching is carried out by heating to a temperature of 850 to 950 [deg.] C. with a subsequent quenching in water or oil at room temperature. Thereafter, the tempering is carried out by heating to a temperature of 600 to 680 [deg.] C. with a subsequent cooling in air at room temperature.
