A process of reducing content of nitrogen oxides in combustion products of gas and oil furnaces with two or more gas or liquid fuel burners, using a method of supplying excess combustion air in one of the burners. Some of the burners are modified for operation with excess combustion air alpha between 1.06 and 2 and the remaining burners operate with a lack of combustion air alpha between 0.99 and 0.6. In this regime the condition that the sum of fuel consumption of all the burners per unit of time is identical is maintained, in a range of plus minus 7 % fuel consumption and consumption of combustion air per unit of time for all burners operating in the regime of the optimal ratio of fuel and combustion air.
