In the present invention, there is disclosed a method of making a fixed window assembly (20) for a motor vehicle, comprising the steps of providing a fixed window pane (24); providing a post (26) having a channel (30) adapted to receive a movable window pane (32); providing an extruded elongated header trim strip (34) adapted to contact the movable window pane (32); providing a mold (48) having a mold cavity (50), said mold cavity (50) having a space (54) for receiving said glass window pane (24), a space (52) for receiving said post (26) and a space (56) for receiving an end portion of said extruded elongated header trim strip (34); placing said window pane (24) in said window pane-receiving space (54) of said mold cavity (50); placing said post (26) in said post-receiving space (52) of said mold cavity (50) such that one edge of said post (26) contacts one edge of said glass window pane (24) and such that a portion of said post (26) extends out of said mold (48); placing one end of said extruded elongated header trim strip (34) into said header trim strip end portion-receiving space (56) of said mold cavity (50) such that a portion of said extruded elongated header strip (34) extends out of said mold (48); closing said mold (48); injecting a polymeric material into said mold (48) to encapsulate a portion of said glass window pane (24) and a portion of said post (26) with said polymeric material and to integrally link said end portion of said extruded elongated header trim strip (34) to said resilient trim portion of said post (26) with polymeric material; allowing said injected polymeric material to cure to form an injection molded trim which encapsulated the edges of said glass window pane (24), a portion of said post (26) and said end of said extruded elongated header strip (34) to form an encapsulated fixed window pane (24) assembly (20) having an integral header strip (34); and removing said encapsulated fixed window pane assembly (20) having an integral header strip (34) from said mold (48). A fixed window assembly (20) for a motor vehicle is claimed, too.
