The invention describes a method of withholding and neutralising chemical warfare mustard gases and the chemical warfare nerve gas, sarin, on the skin, the use of enzyme inhibitors and antioxidant substances that inhibit manifestations of these gases on the skin such as erythema and burning, the inhibition of solar erythema and burning and the creation of carcinogenic nitroso compounds by the ultraviolet radiation of the sun as well as the use, in the form of an aerosol, of antioxidant substances, neutralisers of the free radicals that are created by the burning of forests, houses etc. and enter the lungs on inhalation. These methods are characterised by the use of an ointment or cream that contains active biological substances capable of producing hydroxyl radicals (OH) that deactivate mustard gases, biological compounds that bind mustard gases (e.g. DNA) or compounds of iron or of another displacement metal in the form of haeme or stereochemically bound to protein that can be hydroxylated (e.g. haematin) so as to be able to react with organophosphorus compounds such as sarin and inhibit their absorption by the skin.
