The invention refers to a regeneration process of a reforming catalyst in a moving bed or the production of aromatic hydrocarbons, such catalyst including a support, at least a noble metal and at least a halogen, the process comprising a combustion stage with treatment of said catalyst in at least 2 successive combustion zones, process in which each combustion zone is separated from adjacent combustion zones, in order to allow the catalyst to pass through, and to prevent passage of gases. In each zone, at least an oxygen-containing gas is introduced, and gases so produced are extracted from each zone; the extreme operation conditions are increased in each zone by the catalyst dripping or flow direction. Advantageously, the combustion stage is stopped in a combustion final control zone, characterized by an oxygen substantially small, if not null, consumption. The invention further refers to an apparatus useful to bring into operation this process.
