A method of evaluating the effluent of a hydrocarbon well using a multiphase flow meter (30) connected to the well comprises adjusting the pressure in the flow meter so that the respective flow rates of the liquid phases and of the gas phase of the fluid lie within the measurement domain of the flow meter. An Independent claim is also included for an installation of r carrying out the evaluation comprising a multiphase flow meter downstream of the well and upstream of a region in which there is a predetermined pressure, and a device (34) for adjusting the pressure in the flow meter.
