A method of generating a fold distribution for a seismic survey comprises selecting a bin in a survey area in which there is a plurality of seismic sources and seismic receivers. A dip (υ) and a strike (ζ) are selected to be within predetermined ranges, and the fold is determined. The process is repeated for all other values of dip and strike within the predetermined ranges, so that the fold distribution for the bin, as a function of dip and strike, is determined. This process is then repeated for each bin in the survey area. The fold distribution will show whether the disposition of the seismic sources and seismic receivers is acceptable, or whether unacceptable shadow zones are present.
