A new and improved process of biological treatment of wastewater from the production of ergot-alkaloids enables an effective purification of wastewater prior to its outlet into sewerage canals or central cleaning facility. By using yeast-plants in the process of preliminary treatment according to this invention, a reduction of biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) of outlet wastewater released to canalisation or a central cleaning facility of up to 90 % is achieved. Besides, the created biomass is suitable for further use as nutrition of people and animals. The search for proper micro-organisms which would be able to survive in such conditions, decompose organic substances in wastewater and produce biomass of a commercial value resulted in the choice of experimental micro-organisms, which were isolated from vessels for storage of post-process slurry obtained after the end of the biogenic aerobic process of biomass reproduction for the needs of ergot-alkaloid production.
