PROCESS FOR TREATING CONTAMINATED SEDIMENTS FROM WATER SOURCES

Sediments are treated to give a material which can be deposited on a waste dump in a long term environmentally tolerated manner, or an environmentally tolerated building material, in particular for waterproofing coatings, the contaminated sediments from water to be conditioned being dewatered to a water content of at most about 140 percent relative to their dry weight; the sediments from water dewatered to this extent being substantially homogeneously comminuted; and the comminuted sediments from water being homogeneously mixed with about 4 to 15 percent of a kaolinitic clay, relative to their dry weight.
