PROCESS AND CIRCULAR KNITTING MACHINE FOR MANUFACTURING A PATTERNED PILE FABRIC AND PILE ELEMENT THEREOF

A patterned pile fabric with uncut and severed pile loops ismanufactured on a circular knitting machine in which pile elements(1) are arranged in a cylinder (C) provided with an upper and a lowerpile forming ledge divided by a holding hook. For the knitting andpile forming action the pile elements (1) are individually selected andactuated at least to two different positions in which one of the alternativepile forming ledges is arranged between the needles (N). Pile loopsdrawn out over the upper pile forming ledges are cleared from the pileelements in the subsequent feeder by an additional clearing movementwhile pile loops formed over the lower pile ledge will remain on thepile elements. Those pile loops will slide downwardly along the stemsof the pile elements by the subsequent knitting. In a continuation of thelower pile forming ledge the stems of the pile elements are providedwith a cutting edge (1C) that will cooperate with a cutting edge (2C) ofcutting elements (2) so that all pile loops coming to this continuationsection are severed by a cutting movement of the cutting elements.
