A method of diagnosis of a disease, Syndrome X in one embodiment, in anindividual comprises determining the genotype of a microsatellite region of aglucocorticoid receptor gene in said individual. A method of identifying anindividual predisposed or susceptible to the disease comprises determining thegenotype of a microsatellite region of a glucocorticoid receptor gene in saidindividual. Methods of treatment and therapy for diseased or predisposed orsusceptible individuals are provided, together with apparatus for carrying outthe diagnosis.
