PACKAGE COMPRISING AN INNER, GAS-PERMEABLE ENCLOSURE AND AN OUTER, GAS-IMPERMEABLE ENCLOSURE PEELABLY ADHERED TO THE INNER ENCLOSURE

A package which is ideally suited for the shipment, storage, anddisplay of fresh red meat products includes an inner, gas-permeableenclosure containing therein a product and being formed from athermoplastic film that conforms to the contour of the product. Thepackage also includes an outer, gas-impermeable enclosure which ispeelably bonded to the gas-permeable enclosure so that the product can bemaintained in a low-oxygen environment until such time that it is desired toremove the gas-impermeable enclosure. The gas-impermeable enclosure isbonded to the gas-permeable enclosure via reactive surface modification sothat the gas-impermeable enclosure is peelably removable from thegas-permeable enclosure at a bond-strength ranging from about 0.2 to about 15Newtons/meter. Related packaging and manufacturing methods, as well aspreferred gas-permeable and gas-impermeable films, are also disclosed.
