ALLELIC VARIANTS OF THE PHOSPHOLIPASE C-.GAMMA.1 GENE ASSOCIATED WITH BIPOLAR DISORDER

The present invention relates to the use of phospholipase C-.gamma.1 gene forthe diagnosis, prognosis and development of treatments of bipolar disorderand/or lithium response. There is provided a method for the identification ofpatient with susceptibility to bipolar disorder and/or lithium response, whichcomprises the steps of: a) obtaining a nucleic acid sample of the patient; andb) determining allelic variants of phospholipase C-.gamma.1 gene present inthe sample, and wherein certain allelic variants are indicative of a risk ofpipolar disorder and/or lithium response.
