Regenerative adsorption of mercury on activated carbons (16A, 16B) derived from scrap tires enables the removal and recovery of mercury from combustion/incineration flue gas (26), with concurrent control of SO2 and NOx. Flue gas (38) is used for regeneration of the activated carbon (16A, 16B), and mercury stripped from the activated carbon (16A, 16B) is recovered downstream (18) of the regenerator (16A, 16B).
