This invention provides novel agents for the treatment of herpesvirus infections and for the prevention of recurrence of herpesvirus infections, which are derived from a crude drug and can be administered for a prolonged period of time without causing the problems involved in the prior art anti-herpesvirus agents comprised of nucleic acid derivatives, namely generation of drug-resistant strains and induction of side effects. Particularly, it provides an agent for use in the treatment of herpesvirus infections, which comprises 3-oxo-olean-18-en-28-oic acid represented by the following formula (I): as an active ingredient, and an agent for the prevention of recurrence of herpesvirus infections, which comprises 3-oxo-olean-18-en-28-oic acid represented by the above formula (I) as an active ingredient.
