An improved card feeding apparatus (10) and associated method for feeding plastic cards (14) to a printer. The apparatus (10) can be used in any system where plastic cards (14) are fed into a printer, but has particular use in a self-service, automated card issuance kiosk. The apparatus (10) includes a support structure (16), and a card cassette (44) is mounted on the support structure (16) for holding a plurality of cards (14). The card cassette (44) is moveable relative to the support structure (16), with the card cassette (44) defining a discrete position for each card. A card picker (82) is mounted on the support structure (16), with the card picker (82) being capable of picking any one of the plurality of cards (14) from the card cassette (44). Since each card (14) has a discrete position within the card cassette (44), the card cassette (44) can be moved past the card picker (82) and any one of the cards within the card (14) cassette (44) can be picked by the card picker (82), and subsequently fed to a printer to personalize the card (14).
