The outer shell (5) of the socket for a hip replacement prosthesis, composed of two shells, has a number of passage openings (12) for mountings to hold the shell against the bone bed (4). Unused openings (12) are each filled by a plug (15) inserted from the inner side within a chamfered recess (25) for support with a sealing surface.
