A refrigeration system for cooling down an object to be cooled (10) to low temperatures has a Joule Thomson cooler (22) with an expansion nozzle (32). The flow through the expansion nozzle (32) can be regulated by means of a throttle body (36). The throttle body (36) is displaceable in a temperature-dependent manner by an actuator (52). To this end, an electric temperature sensor (48) is provided. The temperature sensor (48) responds directly to the temperature of the object to be cooled (10). The actuator (52) can be controlled by the electric temperature sensor (48) with a view to increasing the flow when the temperature of the object to be cooled (10) increases beyond a setpoint value.
