The system includes a device (4) for calculating the position (Dstop) on the runway where an aircraft must stop if the pilot decides that he must abort the take-off procedure. This distance (Dstop) is compared (5) with the remaining length of runway in order to determine whether or not it is possible to abort the take-off. Calculation is based on use of an equation which includes the instantaneous acceleration of the aircraft, the real speed of the aircraft and the theoretical speed, and the actual distance already covered by the aircraft and the predicted distance covered at a later time.
