Hygroscopic rock wool mat

The mineral wool mat is used as a substrate for growing plants. The thickness and weight of the mat (10) are such that it can be wound into a roll ready for use in greening over a roof etc. Its thickness can be between 2 and 3.5 cm. and its weight between 30 and 80 kg/m3. A bottom water-permeable supporting layer (12) can be included. This is made typically of cloth or coarse meshwork and glued to the mat. A thin layer of gravel can be applied to the top surface of the mat.
