The assembly forms stacks of printed or unprinted paper sheets (5), and has a feed drum (2) with a powered gathering rake (14) with a number of switched tine ends (13) at the inner ends of the holding pockets (7), to separate the feed flow of paper. The tine ends are moved from the rest position by an extending movement of the rake from a lower feed zone (8) of the feed drum.
