The present invention relates to a fluid-absorbing drug delivery device useful for the initial delayed delivery of an active agent formulation to a fluid-using environment, wherein the initial delay period of initiation or activation is a predetermined length of time. The dispensing device consists of a first housing and a second housing, which are present in a reversibly sliding overlapping arrangement. The first housing comprises an activator formulation and has an aspect ratio of less than one. The housings are preferably egg-shaped.
