The present invention relates to a carrier recovery method of a 16-QAM signal, wherein the received 16-QAM signal is separated by a method of reducing the phase jitter of the output carrier by eliminating the effects of amplitude variations and quadrature components. After obtaining a signal that detects the PSK or the envelope of the 16-QAM signal, the carrier is detected from the 12-PSK or the signal using a quadruple multiplier and a PLL, and the envelope of the 16-QAM signal is detected using the window detector. By detecting a section on the time axis in which a signal causing a phase jitter exists, and controlling the PLL as a result of the detection, the phase jitter is removed so that the signal causing the phase jitter is not fed back on the PLL. The effect of phase jitter is less than that of the carrier recovery circuit using the quadruple multiplier PLL, thereby reducing the intersymbol interference of the received signal.
