The present invention relates to a method for screening a cholesterol biosynthesis inhibitor, and more particularly, to provide a method for efficiently detecting a cholesterol biosynthesis inhibitor in a short time by measuring the activity of a sterol 7-reducing enzyme. The present invention provides a reduction reaction of ergosterol (ergosterol: 5, 7, 22-ergostatrien-3β-ol) under anaerobic conditions as a substrate and a sterol 7-reducing enzyme contained in mammalian liver cells. The amount of 5,22-ergostadien-3beta-ol produced during the specific time period is defined as the activity of the sterol 7-reducing enzyme, resulting in the addition of drugs. The solution is solved by comparatively evaluating the change in the activity of the reducing enzyme.
