FIELD: tunnel ventilation technology. SUBSTANCE: this relates to ventilation of underground mining workers and can be used for control of thermal conditions in railway tunnels located in regions with severe climatic conditions. According to method, outside air is delivered into tunnel due to action of piston phenomenon generated by moving transportation facilities and natural draft. Preliminarily, outside air is heated to above-zero centigrade temperature due to its mixing with tunnel air which is taken out from tunnel space where air temperature is above-zero centigrade. Tunnel air is directed to gantry of tunnel where ventilation air flow is coming in. Air flow quits tunnel through its opposite gantry. In this case, tunnel air is divided into two streams by means of ventilation gate which is installed in central part of tunnel. This ventilation gate partially closes tunnel bore when no transportation facility is moving through it. Part of tunnel air at gantry with outcoming air flow is taken out from tunnel and is heated to above-zero centigrade temperature for delivery to central part of tunnel. Here this air is mixed with second part of tunnel air at side of gantry with incoming ventilation flow. Application of aforesaid method reduces power consumption spent for heating air and simultaneously reduces probability of freezing of concrete lining over entire length of tunnel.
