FIELD: wool processing industry, in particular, primary treatment of wool by washing, and cleaning of sewage water discharged from wool washing vats into sewage pipelines. SUBSTANCE: method involves catching and discharging fibrous tacky materials from liquid medium; positioning vertical stepped plates in equally spaced relation in countercurrency with flow of liquid medium containing tacky material, with some plates being alternatively positioned in fixed state and intermediate plates being positioned for effectuating circular motions from the bottom to the top. Apparatus has frame, filtering grid, grips and drive. Filtering grid has set of equally spaced plates whose surfaces exposed to the action of medium flow are provided with stepped teeth. Teeth that are in permanent contact with washing solution are mounted in vertical position, and those positioned in upper layers of washing liquid or above it are in inclined position. Some plates are alternatively fixed by connecting members to frame and other intermediate plates are fixed by connecting members to sides defined by guides and pivotally connected with fingers of drive sprockets, which are mounted in pairs on two pins.
