The bottle cleaning machine has a housing containing several processing stations and an endless conveyor chain moving the bottles along in series. One processing station is formed by a main lye bath with label removal system (10) at the outlet side and at least one further label removal system (11) set in the inlet side and/or centre area. One and/or both label removal systems have at least one suction opening (16-20) opening into the path of movement of the bottles inside the main lye bath. At least one suction opening can be formed by a suction slit set across the direction of movement of the conveyor. The bottle base points upwards in the area of the suction openings. Several suction openings are connected to a common suction box.
