A method for determining the difference between the transmission duration of between redundant transmission paths

The method involves marking message cells of a virtual connection through cyclically, continuously assigned sequential numbers, whereby message cell sequences are formed by successive message cells according to their sequential number. A message cell is extended to a group of other redundant message cells, whose number equals the amount of redundant transmission paths. One of the redundant message cells is transmitted per redundant transmission path. Redundant message cells marked as signal cells are transferred over the transmission paths. The difference of the time of arrival at the reception of the signal cells is used to determine a measure for the difference of the transmission duration.
