Suitable contents of the kit for treating children include non-prescription items such as compressed charcoal (carbon) tablets (for binding the toxic substances), an anti-foam suspension (to prevent foam entering the lungs if vomiting occurs) and Glauber's salt tablets. Kits for treating adults may also include ipecac in stable form (e.g. Orpec (RTM)). The information/instruction panel on the container provides directions on the use of the contents and preferably also includes the telephone numbers of organisations from which advice and information on poisoning can be obtained.
